Striking Beauty
Striking Beauty: New Jersey Tall Case Clocks 1730–1830 at the Morven Museum and Garden in Princeton, NJ, features over 50 tall case clocks, representing almost as many different clockmakers. The exhibition, which spans five galleries, explores the experiences of the artisans and apprentices, free and enslaved, who contributed to this unique craft in New Jersey. The design of the exhibit leverages flourishes, illustrations, and roman numerals from the clock’s faces and incorporates accents of gold and silver vinyl throughout. The blue accents stand in sharp contrast to the wood of the clocks and introduce a more contemporary take on the exhibition.
